Student Cook at Wolves' Den - Fall 2026

NC State Dining - Raleigh, NC - Part Time

Campus Enterprises Mission: Campus Enterprises is NC State University’s division of retail and hospitality organizations — NC State Dining, NC State Stores, Lonnie Poole Golf Course, NC State Student Centers (Witherspoon and Talley), and the One Card Office. Each department is dedicated to providing service excellence, value and enrichment of the student experience in support of academic success.

Purpose: Provide vital support to Campus Enterprises and NC State Dining by providing an excellent dining experience for all guests.

Compensation: Students will start at a training level of tier 1 at $11 per hour. Once they have demonstrated sufficient skills they will be eligible to be promoted to a tier 2 position at $12 per hour. 

In addition, students who are eligible will receive longevity raises based on years of service within Campus Enterprises. Dining and Catering employees earn free meals and are eligible for an end-of-semester bonus of up to $200.

Locations: Wolves Den at the Vet School. Please note this position is at the Vet School, and you must have reliable transportation.

Work Schedule: Shifts vary Monday-Friday from 6:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Federal Work-Study Eligible

Essential functions and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work in an energetic environment to prep, serve and restock food items
  • Under the direction of culinary staff, prepare small-batch cooking in a high volume food service operation. This includes tasks such as minimal cutting, sauteing and toasting.
  • Actively participate in training to learn how to produce food following detailed, standardized recipes
  • Create standardized recipes and assemble basic ingredients for chefs to use in preparing dishes
  • Adhere to verbal directions meticulously to uphold the exceptional appearance and flavor of the food.
  • Maintain temperature and sanitation to ensure food safety
  • Provide excellent customer service to all guests
  • Assist with weekly and monthly cleaning of the kitchen and production area

Essential Qualifications:

  • Current NC State University student with a flexible schedule
  • Willingness to handle and serve all types of food (including red meat)
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills 
  • Ability to work with a team to serve a diverse population 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, peers and customers
  • Ability to read and follow both written and verbal instructions
  • Work with a sense of urgency, always be timely
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must attend paid mandatory student employee orientation and training sessions
  • Work with a sense of urgency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior culinary experience is welcome but not necessary.
  • Willing to make a multi-semester commitment to NC State Dining and interest in advancing to higher tier culinary positions based on training and performance
